US President Trump announced large-scale oil, gas and mineral exploration is set to start in Greenland, citing its strategic defense value.

The announcement follows a September 22 security agreement signed by Trump, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen and Greenland’s Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen that expands the US military role at Pituffik Space Base and allows two new bases and a "Golden Dome" missile defence system while reaffirming Danish sovereignty.
